Dr. Amadian at Woodley Optometry is certified for the leading methods of myopia management including Paragon CRT Orthokeratology and the MiSight Brilliant Futures Myopia Management Program.
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is one of the most prevalent conditions in the world. Myopia also has a very strong genetic component, suggesting a child is very likely to develop nearsightedness if one or both parents are nearsighted.
The progression of nearsightedness increases a child’s likelihood of developing conditions such as myopic macular degeneration, cataracts, and retinal detachment, among other sight-threatening conditions.
How is myopia treated?
In the past, glasses were prescribed as children progressed year after year. Now, we have options to potentially ”hold” a child’s prescription steady by myopia management methods. These methods involve hard or soft contact lenses prescribed according to each child’s needs.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Amadian will discuss lifestyle factors and genetic factors that contribute to the child’s nearsightedness. Special diagnostic testing will also be done in order to prepare each child’s customized myopia management program. Children as young as 7 have been successful with our myopia management methods!
If you would like to know more about myopia management and if it’s right for your child, schedule a comprehensive eye examination with Dr. Amadian today! If your child has had a comprehensive eye examination within the past three months, please schedule a consultation visit to discuss options.
